Money Definitely changes things!!!!

Though Lil Wayne was expected to be shipped off to the clinker yesterday, the rapper’s sentencing was held off until Mar. 2, the Associated Press reported. According to Weezy’s lawyer, the Grammy winner is in need of dental surgery, which he won’t be able to get from behind prison walls.

However, Lil Wayne made sure to get a farewell message out to his fans. Nearly an hour of footage was posted by the rapper on Ustream this morning after a night spent in studio. (“Tonight’s my last night,” Wayne said in the broadcast. “I came to the studio to get some work done. To all you artists out there, that should be a message or example. I came to work.”) But Wayne had more to say than that. Here are a few of the highlights:
  • Just because he’ll be locked up for 12 months (or maybe eight, if he gets out on good behaviour), Wayne’s still got an album to promote. He told fans to be sure to download songs from his new album, Rebirth.
  • Contrary to rumour, prison rules will allow him to keep his crowning glory: his dreadlocks. “My hair got bounce! That s--t’s nice, you feel me?” he joked. “This is Lil Wayne, featuring my hair. And no, I did not have to cut my hair off. That’s a stupid rumour. Look at this beautiful s--t.”
  • Wayne’s got nothing but love for everyone, including his hometown heroes and new Super Bowl champs the New Orleans Saints: “Shout out to all the Saints out there, Reggie Bush, [Marques] Colston, Drew Brees. The Dome Patrol, Rickey Jackson for being elected to the Hall of Fame this year. Pat Swilling,” he said.
  • He’s also got love for his protege, Drake, who called in to say goodbye during the live broadcast: “Nah, I love you. It’s all love,” Wayne said. (Drake’s part of the phone conversation is inaudible in the tape.) “You know what I told you, hold that s--t down,” he continued
  • And, of course, he’s got love for the fans: “To all my fans, my real fans, I really, really truly love you. I love you with all of me, for real.”
Wayne had been expected to begin a year-long term at New York’s Riker’s Prison sometime yesterday. The rapper pleaded guilty to the “attempted” criminal possession of a weapon, charges which stemmed from a 2007 arrest.

As he told Rolling Stone last week, “This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it.”
