Bershawn Jackson does it again!!!!
l
The strategy worked like a charm. Pushed by a deep field, the Olympic bronze medalist sped to victory in the men's 400m hurdles in 48.03 seconds, the fastest time in the world this season.
"I just wanted a good performance to make the team," Jackson said. "That was my main goal, but that was a race full of outstanding athletes so I knew the time was going to be fast."
Jackson said that he wanted to keep things simple because often when he doesn't, he can lose site of the utlimate goal.
"The hardest part is making the team," Jackson said. "Last year my hardest race was in the Olympic Trials, but I ran a terrible race in Bejing so I want to make up for that."
Moving forward, Jackson said he would like to chase his personal-best in the event.
"I'm very satisfied right now," Jackson said. "I have a new coach and I feel really confident. I just want to keep running fast. My PR is 47.30, and that's what I'm shooting for. I think I'm going to need to break that to win in Berlin."
At the Olympic Trials last summer, Jackson was convinced that the U.S. contingent had what it took to score a medal sweep in Beijing. Angelo Taylor, Kerron Clement and Jackson went on to do just that at the Games. Nothing has changed since then. Jackson believes that he, Taylor, Johnny Dutch from South Carolina, and Clement, who has a bye to Berlin as the reigning world champion, will dominate the Worlds podium.
"I think we will sweep the medals again in Berlin," Jackson said. "America has the best 400 meter hurdlers in the world and I don't think any country can compete with us."
