The defense lawyer for the man that shot and killed rapper Dolla has revealed that a mall surveillance tape will show the Atlanta emcee threatening his client before the fatal shooting.

According to Los Angeles attorney Howard Price, his client Aubrey Berry killed Dolla in self-defense despite the rapper being unarmed.

“He believed [Dolla] was armed,” Price told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He [Berry] believed he was in danger.”

The two men had crossed paths two weeks ago, when Dolla and his entourage allegedly attacked Berry at an Atlanta gentleman’s club named Platinum 21.

Regarding the accusations that Berry followed Dolla to Los Angeles to execute him in revenge, Price argued their chance second encounter in the restaurant stall was simply fate.

Berry, a self-styled music promoter, is said to have been at the eatery conducting a business meeting.

“He [Berry] was there [at P.F. Chang’s] first,” Price explained. “[During the strip club incident], Mr. Berry inadvertently bumped into a woman he didn’t know. It was a stupid, silly incident that should’ve never escalated to this point.”

According to Price, his client decided to flee the restaurant after the bathroom stall encounter, as friends warned him that Dolla had Crip affiliations.

While waiting for his vehicle in the Beverly Center parking lot, he was allegedly approached by Dolla, his friend, Sidiq Abawi, and the rapper's cousin, Wilbert Robinson.

Around this time, Berry discharged four to five shots from his 9MM handgun.

Dolla was hit several times in the back, and died from a wound that pierced his heart.

Police have charged Aubrey Berry with two counts of assault with a deadly firearm and one count of murder.

He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Dolla's stepfather George Viera explained his stepson’s true personality was league’s a part from the rap persona fans knew.

"It was a character he played. To us he was just Roddy,” Viera revealed in a statement. “When he was home, you couldn't pry him away. [He] loved to play with his nieces and nephews, loved to play on the Wii. He wanted to go to theology school. He was very interested in religion. People think rapper, they think hard, but he wasn't that way."

At press time, Aubrey Berry’s bail has been set at $5 million.

T.I is coming home sooner than later !!!!!!!

The Associated Press reports:

Rapper T.I. will be coming to Arkansas — to serve a federal prison sentence.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr., must report to Forrest City's low-security federal prison by noon on May 26, according to court filings. There, Harris will join 1,500 other inmates as he serves a year-and-one-day prison sentence after pleading guilty in March to federal weapons charges in Atlanta.

The rapper, the self-proclaimed "King of the South," had faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each charge in his three-count indictment.

Harris will be credited for 305 days of home detention he already has served after being charged, so his stay at the Forrest City prison likely will be only two months.

R.D. Weeks, a spokesman for the prison, said Harris likely would be treated like any other prisoner coming into the facility.

"Unless there are custody or security concerns, all incoming inmates are placed in general population," Weeks told The Associated Press.

Weeks said each cell at the prison is double-bunked. Harris also will have the opportunity to use the recreation yard, as well as take part in counseling or participate in the one of the facility's 14 religious groups, Week said.

Harris, 28, was arrested after trying to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers from undercover federal agents in 2007. That came after Harris' best friend was killed following a post-performance party in Cincinnati in 2006. The rapper has said the bullets that killed his friend were meant for him.

Upon his release, Harris will be on probation for three years. He also must pay a $100,000 fine as part of his sentence.

Harris' sixth album, "Paper Trail," has sold about 2 million copies and the rapper earned a Grammy for the song "Swagga Like Us" that he performed with Jay-Z. Harris wrote the lyrics for the album while awaiting trial.

Life of Dolla

A 23-year-old Atlanta-area man has been arrested and charged with the Monday afternoon (May 18) death of 21-year-old Konvict Muzik recording artist Dolla.

Aubrey Louis Berry, a resident of Snellville, GA, a suburb about 25 miles Northeast of Atlanta, is being held on $1 million bond after being arrested Monday night, Los Angeles police said in a statement today (May 19).

According to the Associate Press, Berry was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after reportedly dropping off a rental car and making his way to Terminal 1.

“As the officers approached the suspect, they asked him ‘Do you know why we’re here?’” Airport Police spokesman Sgt. Jim Holcomb told the AP. “He put his [hands] up in the air and said, ‘Yes, I’ve got a gun in my waistband. Don’t shoot me.”

The gun found on the suspects body was a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

Berry was immediately turned over to the LAPD.

According to police spokeswoman Karen Rayner, two other individuals, a man and a woman, are being questioned as “persons of interest” but have not been charged in connection with the shooting.

They were found at the airport with Berry and arrested before attempting to board a flight at LAX.

Dolla, born Roderick Anthony Burton, Jr. was fatally shot around 3:00pm Monday while waiting for his vehicle at a valet stand near the La Cienega Boulevard entrance of the Beverly Center.

Police initially believed the shooting was the result of a spontaneous argument between the two young men.

However, new evidence currently points to the theory that they knew each other, as Dolla had been a resident of Atlanta since the age of five.

Before signing to Akon’s Konvict Muzik imprint in 2007, Dolla had already experienced a certain level of success in the entertainment field.

He started his career as a member of Da Razkals Cru, a group signed to the now defunct Elektra Records.

He then landed a gig as a model for Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Sean John clothing line.

At the time of his death, Dolla was working on his debut album, Another Day, Another Dolla.

On one song, “Rainy Nights,” the young artist seems to have foreshadowed his own tragic demise, rapping “they say the good die young/ I guess I’m on my way.”

Dolla is survived by his sister Divinity, who is currently serving a prison sentence for an altercation with police; and his mother Joyce Burton, who still resides in Atlanta, where Dolla’s funeral will be held.

In honor of the vision of his late mother Dr. Donda West, Kanye West has announced a second “Stay in School” Chicago benefit concert.

The event is sponsored by the Kanye West Foundation (KWF), which was created by Kanye’s mother in 2007.

The main focus of the organization remains fighting against the alarming level of school dropouts around the country.

The concert was originally conceived by David Abrams, a Highland Park High School sophomore in Chicago.

After forming the non-profit organization S.H.O.W. (Students Helping Our World), Abrams reached out to Kanye for assistance in using his music to advocate academic excellence.

The Chicago superstar was more than willing to oblige.

“I have always had the desire to help people and make the world a better place,” Kanye explained to AllHipHop.com in a prepared statement.

KWF CEO Joseph Collins reiterated Kanye’s stance, but emphasized the leadership shown by the Chicago students of S.H.O.W. in bringing the concert to fruition.

“I believe that youth are the music for creating a world filled with harmony. To create such a world, however, we must all do our part. This cause is directly in line with the mission of the KWF,” Collins told AllHipHop.com. “We see this event as a launching pad and long-term effort to help students in school. Immediately upon learning about David Abrams and S.H.O.W, we knew this was a good match. The fact that a young person chose to lead this effort and challenge his peers to do better in school is amazing and exactly what Dr. West envisioned when she and Kanye created this foundation. I believe these efforts directly support the vision Dr. West had for the organization and for America’s children. I see this concert as the seed that will allow us to ‘fulfill a mother’s dream.’”

The event will be taped by the national music network Fuse, and airs sometime this summer.

Kanye West’s 2009 “Stay in School” concert commences June 11 at the historic Chicago Theatre.

Tickets are priced from $49.50 to $500 for VIP privileges, and can be purchased starting this Thursday (May 21) at www.ticketmaster.com.

CHICAGO IS MAD AT DRAKE!

Uh-OH! Artists, there are a few cities that you don’t want to disappoint. Chicago is one of them. I don’t have all the details, but my people in Chicago are telling me that Drake missed a date there at the House of Blues and fans are upset. Somebody said and I quote, “Drake will learn.” Now, I know the person so this isn’t a threat or anything of that. I think it was just a person saying as a young dude in the game with no project on the streets, he needs to make these important dates. And, then they said there is more to come…I wonder what else can be said?
